Haskins Ferndown celebrates successful year of fundraising and announces new charity of the year

Haskins Garden Centre in Ferndown is set to support SPRING as its charity partner for 2024, with fundraising activities well underway for the year ahead.

During 2023, Haskins Ferndown supported Forest Holme Hospice, donating over £14,700 thanks to a variety of charitable events.

The family support service SPRING is now set to benefit from the garden centre’s donations. The charity forms part of the University Hospitals Dorset NHS Charity (UHD) and is dedicated to supporting parents and relatives that have experienced the trauma of baby loss. Working closely with medical professionals, SPRING provides bereaved families with a high level of care at any stage in their grief.

Marc Etheridge, General Manager at Haskins, said: “Haskins Ferndown is looking forward to supporting our chosen charity for 2024, SPRING. Building on the outstanding fundraising efforts of last year, we will be adding several more events to our calendar in aid of this incredible charity. This will include ticketed concerts with the Land Girls in June and Love Soul Choir in December, while we’re also taking part in the major UHD event, ‘Walk for Wards’ in September.

“The brilliant team at SPRING carry out invaluable work daily, helping so many people through their grief. Our team is proud to support this remarkable charity, and hope we enable SPRING to continue offering their fantastic services.”

A particularly successful event during 2023 was the static bikeathon whereby Haskins staff, customers and charity volunteers continuously cycled in-store over two weekends. Other fundraising activities included raffles, quiz nights, and cake sales. The team also collected donations from customers via the Charity Wishing Well and Pennies system, which encourages customers to add a donation to purchases made via a card transaction.

Marc continued: “The entire Ferndown team worked incredibly hard last year in our fundraising efforts for Forest Holme Hospice, a charity close to many of our hearts. The charities we choose to support have such an overwhelmingly positive impact upon our local community, offering care and assistance for families that visit our centres day-in, day-out. It gives us immense pride that the support our team provides helps to offer a level of care to those that need it.”
